COMPANY PROFILE STACCATO FILMS

Staccato Films is one of the most prolific production companies in The Netherlands with 15 award winning features to its credit. Winner Best European Film at the 2003 Hollywood Film Festival with MOONLIGHT, by Oscar-nominated director Paula van der Oest (sold by Arclight, co-production with Spice Factory). Co-producers of Oscar-entry PAULINE & PAULETTE, winner of the Forum Audience award at the Cannes Festival 2001 which sold to half the world within three days, with the English-speaking world going to Sony Pictures Classics. Co-production SWEET JAM opened the Giornati degli Autori at the 2004 Venice Film Festival.
Other films include SUZY Q (most awarded Dutch film of 1999), THE EMPEROR'S WIFE (starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers, sold by First Look) and Cannes contender BUENOS AIRES VICE VERSA, directed by Alejandro Agresti. Currently in post-production (with PV Pictures) is SPORTSMAN OF THE CENTURY, for which Emjay convinced Ennio Morricone to compose the soundtrack.

Staccato Films was founded by producer Emjay Rechsteiner in 1989. A New York office is run by Karen Jaroneski.

Emjay Rechsteiner (Utrecht, 1964) – MA in History and Communications at the University of Amsterdam, Media Academy Hilversum, filmschool New York, International Diploma of Advertising, European Post-Graduate Certificate in Audiovisual Production EAVE, Film Business School, Binger Film Institute. Himself a lecturer at the Netherlands Film- and Television Academy and the University of Amsterdam. Worked in New York and The Netherlands a.o. as advertising agency producer (Saatchi & Saatchi) and production manager (Toonder Studios) before founding Staccato Films. Winner AV-Talent Award 1997.

Mentioned by leading newspaper NRC Handelsblad as “most successful Dutch producer in Cannes” (May 2001). That same year he had the honor to preside over the Jury of the Netherlands Film Festival.

Worked with many of the most exciting and established directorial talent in The Netherlands, including Alejandro Agresti, Martin Koolhoven, Pim de la Parra, Paul Ruven, Eddy Terstall and Oscar-nominated Paula van der Oest.

Produced and co-produced 15 feature films, 2 award-winning educational films, numerous commercials (e.g. for MCDONALD’S and CENTRAAL BEHEER) and 1 audio CD (with Raymond van het Groenewoud).
